Knowledge of the universe and our position in it, the perspective about the essence of “reality” and the meaning of the journey of life, as well as experiences of the realm which can not be framed with the understandings of happenings occurring in time and space, bring us to the next questions: What should be the motivation and criteria of choice  in acting in a world, which demands constant observation, power of judgement, in achieving meaningful goals? One may say the attitudes and principles, which may guide individuals to find a harmonious relations with the living and non-living worlds around, may be defined as the values of individual life.

In the living biological sphere, where competition and overpowering of the weaker ones by the mightier species seem to be the way the nature acts, harmony has a different meaning than in a realm where the battles for physical survival have been overcome. In the world, where the predators and the preys roam around, harmony may appear to be synonymous with the natural order which is intricately balanced by killing and survival of specific numbers of members of different specie who may fit harmoniously into the available natural resources. Harmony in such a natural order does not mean a world without conflict and competition. A peaceful survival of all by utilizing a common ground of resources, while prohibiting killing and devouring or banning the efforts of the stronger to win over the weaker ones, the harmony may not be sustainable unless other means beside the natural method of survival are found. In a social-order which may provide, for example, the chemicals needed for the growth of living cells for all, without the necessity of consuming lower life forms, the peaceful preservation of all life may sound rational and meaningful. So, the rational foundation of values in a circumstance of affluence will be different from what would be in the conditions of needs.

In my view, preservation of life and development of life towards higher evolutionary stage should be the main guide lines of values one may choose while acting and living. However, these values should not interfere with the harmony which exists in nature and one must keep in mind the complexly with which all remain integrated and entangled with larger dimensions of the creation. The values should promote and support ways which may facilitate the development and progress of other human beings towards a higher evolutionary stage: They should enhance a development of the society which aims at guiding the individuals to access information from higher spheres of consciousness which I have talked about.

Values are often associated with goals of gaining freedom and meaning in life which may open paths of one`s own development without jeopardizing the freedom and meaning of other`s life. However, in societies which lack means to provide opportunities for all of the developments which may result in creating freedom and meaning as desired by every individual, the problem of values turn intricate. While the attitudes and principles take shapes under the atmosphere of competition and level of personal growth of the individuals, the question of values becomes extremely complex.

However in all circumstances, values based on the vision of the greater world and the higher nature of the evolution of the mind, which one may attain by following an enlightened path, in my opinion, should be the way to choose while acting and living in the world. Emphasis on freedom which may rob others of freedom and the search for meaning which may obstruct others` search for meaning should be seen as values which may bring the evolution of human race in a wrong direction. In my view enjoyment of all rights, which individuals may desire, can not create any ethical foundation of values that can bring progress of mankind. The rights, which promotes values, need to be understood and directed to serve higher development of man away from the vegetative state where most animal life are bound. They should be  results of reflections associated with a higher knowledge and awareness of the unity of life, nature and the spiritual dimension of all existence.

All individuals can not be regarded as the bastions of values who, in the name of freedom, should be left to compete with each other. Human race needs exposure to greater knowledge of the physical, biological and spiritual worlds and guidance from evolved minds who value love and compassion for all as the highest goal of life.
